Mamanuca stops

The short lines from Denarau fan out west into the Mamanucas: South Sea Island, Treasure Island, Beachcomber Island, Mana Island, Castaway Island, Malolo Island, Likuliku Lagoon, Tokoriki and Matamanoa. The near islands take well under an hour and see several services a day, which makes same-day connections from a morning arrival in Nadi realistic. Mana Island is the busiest of these stops and has its own route guide.

Yasawa stops

The Yasawa chain is served by one daily northbound rotation. From Denarau the boat calls at the southern Yasawa stops - Barefoot Kuata, Wayalailai, Naqalia - then works north past Octopus, Manta Ray and Paradise Cove to the Nanuya area and Blue Lagoon before turning back south. Board time depends on how far up the chain your resort sits: around 2 hours to the southern stops, about 4 hours 30 minutes to Blue Lagoon. Because there is one rotation per day, a missed boat means a missed day, not a missed hour.

Check-in and terminal

Check-in for all South Sea Cruises departures is at the company's desk at Port Denarau Terminal, 30 minutes before the vessel leaves. The terminal sits at the end of the Denarau marina complex; allow a few extra minutes to find the right desk if you arrive in the morning peak, when several island departures leave close together. Your booking confirmation names the departure that binds you - recheck it the evening before you sail.

Getting to the port

If you stay in Nadi, Wailoaloa or on Denarau itself, the simplest way in is the operator's connecting coach: South Sea Cruises picks up from most hotels in these areas and from Nadi Airport, timed to the boat departures. Accommodation pickups must be advised at least 24 hours before travel, so add the coach when you book the ferry. Taxis and resort shuttles reach the terminal too - Denarau is a short drive from Nadi town and the airport.

Luggage and the tender hand-off

Most island stops have no jetty: the ferry holds position and a tender takes passengers and bags the last stretch to the beach. Pack so that the hand-off is easy - soft bags travel better than rigid cases, and anything you would not want splashed belongs in your day pack. The operator publishes the binding luggage conditions with the ticket; confirm anything unusual, from dive gear to surfboards, during booking rather than at the terminal.

FAQ Port Denarau

Frequently asked questions

Questions about departures from Port Denarau.

How early do I need to be at Port Denarau?+

Check in at the South Sea Cruises desk at Port Denarau Terminal 30 minutes before your vessel departs. With connecting coach transfers, island luggage and a busy terminal in the morning peak, arriving earlier than the deadline is more comfortable than cutting it close.

Is there a coach connection from Nadi or the airport?+

Yes. South Sea Cruises runs connecting coaches from most Nadi, Wailoaloa and Denarau hotels and from Nadi Airport to the terminal. Accommodation pickups must be advised at least 24 hours before travel, so book the coach when you book the boat rather than on the morning itself.

How do I get from the ferry to my resort?+

Most Mamanuca and Yasawa resorts have no jetty. The ferry stops off the island and a small tender comes out to transfer you and your luggage ashore - the operator itself warns that you may get your feet wet. Keep valuables and electronics in a bag you can carry, and ask your resort about its own tender arrangements.

How does the return to Denarau work?+

Every connection in the feed runs in both directions, and the return leg is booked like the outward one. Mamanuca stops have several chances a day; on the Yasawa run there is one southbound pass per stop per day, arriving back at Port Denarau in the evening. Check your return date in the timetable before you fix onward plans.

Can I reach Vanua Levu or Taveuni from Port Denarau?+

No. Port Denarau is the resort-transfer hub. The domestic RoRo ferries towards Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Ovalau or Kadavu leave from other ports such as Natovi and Suva, and the Tavewa Seabus departs from Lautoka. Those services are not bookable on this site - verify them with their operators.
